Introduction
This unit is intended to equip the trainee with competencies to make an initial assessment of a casualty and recognize a range of signs and symptoms associated with accidents and medical emergencies in the community
General Objectives
By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:
a) handle an emergency and monitor a conscious victim for life and life-threatening conditions
b) Prioritize care for life-threatening injuries or sudden illnesses
c) manage different types of emergencies and injuries, including burns and scalds, foreign bodies, poisoning, muscles, bone and joint injuries to the head, neck and back
d) practice basic precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission control external bleeding
