Course Description 

This course prepares students for success in the 2428/2 paper. The scope of the course includes the development of a new venture from idea generation through business planning, funding and startup. Students will learn from assigned reading, class discussions, and guest lectures delivered by some of Seattle’s most accomplished entrepreneurs and subject-matter experts. 

Course Objectives Students will learn:

 1. How to craft a business plan that makes sense and attracts investors .

 2. What it’s like to start a new company and some pitfalls to avoid.

 3. What life as an entrepreneur is like and some of the pros and cons as a career path. 

4. How to build a network of contacts within the entrepreneurial community.

Educational research has a strong tradition of employing state-of-the-art statistical and techniques. Because of this tradition, Quantitative Methods has long been an area of specialization within Educational Psychology.

Statistics emphasizes the following four objectives:

  • To develop a strong foundation in mathematics and statistical theory as the basis for growth over a professional career.
  • To develop a high level of expertise in the application of statistics or psychometrics to educational research.
  • To develop the ability to serve as a consultant to educational researchers, and to employ the appropriate quantitative methods in a wide variety of contexts.
  • To develop the capability of conducting and publishing high-quality methodological research.
